Value for Money

85/100

The GT-5000 combines crystal-clear treble, deep, detailed bass and a generously dimensional soundstage with exemplary speed poise. HiFi News admired its precision, slam and refined imaging, while SoundStage Solo found a natural, dynamically bold performance. Its silent belt drive, superbly finished high-mass plinth and straightforward arm setup make this a seriously accomplished flagship vinyl source.

Pros

Exceptionally clear, precise and spacious sound, with vivid treble, solid imaging and deep, detailed bass slam.

Highly stable, quiet belt-drive operation: reviewers found accurate speed, controlled startup and no vibration or belt slip.

Outstanding flagship construction, including a substantial piano-black plinth, heavy platter assembly and beautifully executed tonearm.

Tonearm setup is notably approachable, with low-friction movement and simple VTA and tracking-force adjustment.

Cons

Its revealing arm and presentation can make dust, clicks and groove wear on older records more conspicuous.

The fixed, non-height-adjustable feet demand a properly level support surface.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"Yes, it’s Gigantic and Tremendous… but it’s also resoundingly Gorgeous and Tuneful."

— SoundStage Solo

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 93/100

Reviews describe a highly resolved yet natural and dynamically forceful presentation, with particularly strong clarity, imaging and bass authority. Its speed is reported as exceptionally steady, while the quiet mechanical platform and carefully executed arm support a clean, composed presentation.

Overall Sound

95/100

SoundStage Solo found truthful precision, potent resolution, accurate timbre and a natural, balanced soundfield, alongside bold dynamics and deep low-end power. Hi-Fi News called the treble sublime and the bass both deep and detailed, saying the deck is among the best performers at its price; StereoNET also heard strikingly natural, clear and lifelike sound in the complete system demonstration.

Speed Stability

94/100

The crystal-controlled belt drive is specified at less than 0.04% wow and flutter, with fine pitch adjustment available. Hi-Fi News found its delivered speed spot-on and reported controlled startup without vibration or belt slip, while Audiophilepure heard neither wow nor flutter in use.

Tonearm Performance

92/100

The multi-layer carbon-fibre-composite arm is praised for its rigid construction and exceptionally free, low-friction movement. SoundStage Solo also found alignment notably straightforward, requiring only VTA and tracking-force adjustment, while the supplied counterweights accommodate a useful cartridge-weight range.

Noise Isolation

91/100

SoundStage Solo describes the bearing and motor as black-hole silent, with the massive damped plinth and machined feet intended to control vibration. Hi-Fi News likewise heard no vibration during startup, though it noted that the deck makes clicks and pops on worn records more apparent rather than softening them into the background.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

94/100

The GT-5000 combines a substantial piano-finish plinth, machined aluminium feet, a 5.2kg aluminium platter and 2kg brass sub-platter. Hi-Fi News called the fit and finish of both deck and arm nothing short of stunning, while SoundStage Solo praised the plinth finish, mass and vibration-conscious execution.

Features Usability

88/100

This is a focused high-end manual deck, but it includes useful ownership provisions: electronic 33⅓/45rpm operation, adjustable pitch, both balanced XLR and RCA outputs, and supplied rubber and felt mats. Reviewers also highlight easy arm setup, two counterweights and practical platter-lifting handles; there is no built-in phono stage or automation.

Value for Money

85/100

At roughly $8,799–$8,999.95, the GT-5000 is a major investment positioned against high-end rivals. Hi-Fi News says its sonic performance is right up with the best at its price, but the available reviews offer little direct comparison of its value against competing decks.

Balanced Output Achieves Full Balanced Signal Process from Cartridge to Speaker

Together with the C-5000 pre-amplifier and M-5000 power amplifier, Yamaha delivers an end-to-end balanced signal chain across its flagship models for premier performance.

GT Series Design

Referencing the ‘Gold Age’ of Hi-Fi, the GT-5000 draws inspiration from Yamaha original 'Gigantic and Tremendous' series turntables — characterized by heavy wooden cabinets and platter which served to dampen vibration and deliver improved performance.

Straight, Short Arm for Openness and Transparency in Sound

Accurately capturing the audio from the source is the imperative first step in delivering authentic, true Hi-Fi sound.

The flagship GT-5000 adopts a short, straight arm designed to deliver superior rigidity as well as balance of weight and mechanics which results in improved traceability.

A rigid mechanism with simple construction means there is no need for an inside force canceler weight.

Customized Belt-Drive for Stabilizing Platter

The customized belt-drive mechanism of the GT-5000 minimizes the influence of the motor cogging and excludes feedback control for an open and smooth sound.

The original GT concept utilized the notion of internal mass to counter feedback control. This is built upon with the GT-5000 which negates feedback control through the belt-drive.

Heavy 5 kg Aluminium Platter

Further enhancing stability and performance is the heavy aluminium platter of the GT-5000 which weighs in at a hefty 5 kg.

24-Pole, 2-Phase AC Synchronous Motor

The GT-5000 is driven by a 24-pole, 2-phase AC synchronous motor that generates an accurate sine wave.

Custom, Heavy-Duty Feet

The GT-5000 exhibits exceptional rigidity and stability in its design — extending to the specially designed feet which have been tailor-made for the flagship model.

Heavy-duty yet exemplifying the luxurious look and feel of the GT-5000, the custom feet ensure high-fidelity audio performance.

Luxurious Piano Black Finish

Worthy of the flagship Hi-Fi status, the GT-5000 boasts a luxurious black gloss finish — reminiscent of a Yamaha grand piano — to match perfectly with the C-5000 pre-amplifier, M-5000 power amplifier and the NS-5000 flagship speakers.
