Wharfedale’s Super Linton combines deep, articulate bass with an expansive, three-dimensional soundstage, bringing full-scale authority to a refined retro standmount. Erin’s Audio Corner found its balanced voicing and wide dispersion easy to enjoy across genres, while Sound Advice praised its fluent, cohesive three-way performance. A serious, room-filling listen with the detail and dynamic headroom to reward ambitious systems.
Pros
Deep, fast and articulate bass gives this standmount unusually confident low-frequency weight and impact.
Wide dispersion, strong depth and precise image placement create an expansive, immersive soundstage.
Neutral, detailed three-way voicing remains composed and energetic with complex music and changing volume levels.
The damped, dual-layer cabinet and real-veneer finish deliver notably premium build quality.
Cons
Treble and upper-vocal presence can sound forward or sibilant in some systems; careful toe-in and amplifier matching are worthwhile.
Bass can lean toward snap and extension rather than warmth, and benefits from placement closer to the front wall in many rooms.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 92/100
Reviewers consistently describe a large-scale, neutral-to-lively three-way sound with unusually deep, controlled bass, strong spatial presentation and excellent clarity. Its energetic balance rewards careful amplifier matching and sensible toe-in, particularly for listeners sensitive to extra presence in the treble.
Bass
94/100
For a large 8-inch three-way standmount, reviewers find the bass exceptionally deep, full and confident, with Sound Advice calling it superior to nearly everything else at the price. Multiple comparisons praise its speed, articulation and punch, although placement nearer the front wall can be beneficial for fuller mid-bass weight.
Mid
91/100
The midrange is widely described as clear, fluid and well integrated, with vocals floating freely in space and strong tonal body on less-than-perfect recordings. One reviewer found upper vocals a little forward and noted that amplifier character is readily audible, so partnering has a meaningful influence.
Treble
89/100
The upgraded tweeter earns repeated praise for detail, clarity, air and energy without the persistent fatigue often associated with an overtly lively top end. Some reviewers heard extra sibilance or sparkle initially, and several found that modest toe-in softens the balance; one report says the presentation mellowed after use.
Soundstage Imaging
94/100
Imaging and staging are standout strengths: reviewers report a broad, enveloping stage that extends beyond the cabinets, with convincing depth, layering and firmly located instruments. The wide dispersion also accommodates more than one listener, though one reviewer occasionally found images at the far left and right more tied to the speaker positions.
Dynamics
91/100
Reviewers praise the Super Linton's percussive energy, lively transient response and ability to remain composed with dense or loud material. It is not portrayed as the most explosive, attack-first design available, but it maintains fluency and impact across a wide volume range.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
94/100
The cabinet, veneer, terminals and substantial presentation attract especially strong praise, with Sound Advice calling the build and finish outstanding for the asking price. Reviewers also note the dual-layer, damped cabinet construction and report materially lower panel vibration than the earlier Linton.
Value for Money
93/100
At roughly £1,849 without stands or about $2,499-$2,799 per pair depending on market and stand package, this is a considered purchase rather than a budget speaker. Even so, several reviewers call it hard to beat in its class, praise its performance against similarly priced rivals, and highlight promotions that include the dedicated stands.

Manufacturer's Description — Wharfedale
The new Wharfedale SUPER LINTON represents a significant milestone in innovation for Wharfedale, being a standout addition to the globally best-selling Heritage series.
This updated model is part of a line of award-winning speakers that are renowned for their exceptional musicality and have won the hearts of tens of thousands of music lovers. Led by Peter Comeau, the Director of Acoustic Design, Wharfedale’s engineers revisited every aspect of the speaker’s design, including the cabinet, drive units, and crossover. The outcome of their efforts is the newly upgraded Super Linton.
OVERVIEW
The current iteration of the Wharfedale LINTON was launched in 2019 and has since become one of the company’s most successful loudspeakers… ever! Not only in the number of pairs sold but also in terms of awards, accolades and endorsements from enthusiasts and press alike.
As part of Wharfedale’s world-famous heritage series, LINTON can boldly but confidently claim to be one of the most astounding value loudspeakers of recent times.
Not only is LINTON an exception in design, build, and styling, but its industrial design and acoustic performance have been universally welcomed as a loudspeaker that brings musicality back to music and romance back to home hi-fi.
Still going strong and one of the most sought-after loudspeakers in the market, LINTON is going nowhere soon and remains a jewel in the crown of Wharfedale’s ever-popular Heritage series.
However, as a brand with more heritage than most and the unparalleled ability to deliver artisan cabinetry, category-leading, and price-point-defying loudspeakers, the Wharfedale LINTON’s appeal has room to expand.
Unlike the SUPER LINTON of ’67, which was’ Super’ on the basis of mainly improved cabinet design, the new SUPER LINTON is genuinely SUPER in every way. Not detracting from its sister, the current LINTON, the SUPER LINTON takes one step further in engineering and performance in almost every aspect. The result is a moderately more expensive but extensively more capable loudspeaker that forms the perfect addition to the Heritage series, offering an upgrade path for existing LINTON owners but also bridging the gap between the flagship, made in the UK DOVEDALE model.
Super what and super how?
Like the original ‘Super’ concept, the new SUPER LINTON benefits from an enlarged cabinet and propriety Wharfedale sandwich cabinet design that features a resonance-reducing combination of two layers of MDF complemented with a layer of acoustic damping glue.
A new bass unit and a more powerful motor system enhance the low-frequency performance, extending down to 32Hz! This results in a more dramatic and impactful low-end.
For the treble output, SUPER LINTON features a lightweight fabric weave dome coated with special damp-ing material and supported by a ceramic magnet motor system, contributing to its sweet and detailed char-acter. The revised short horn profile ensures smooth response down to the upper midrange, and the new front plate design enhances high-frequency dispersion, matching the transient impact and detailing of the new bass unit.
A new revised chamber for the midrange drive unit works to cancel out mid-band specific back waves by multiple layers of long-hair fibre, resulting in a more natural prominence of the vocal and instrument frequencies.
A new split-PCB crossover design blends the drive units together while avoiding electromagnetic interference. The crossover also benefits from custom-specified components chosen for neutrality and optimum signal transfer. SUPER LINTON even goes as far as employing PE dielectric and LCOFC cabling for pristine signal transfer.
Recognisable as having ‘LINTON DNA’, the SUPER LINTON’s appearance is a modest update. However, new considerations were made for the driver array and cabinet dimensions. SUPER LINTON sits a modest 50mm/2 ins taller than the current LINTON model. This modest increase in dimensions means the SUPER LINTON doesn’t require anything different in footprint or spacing – in fact, it is designed to use the same LINTON Stand for optimum positioning… the much-cherished benefit of LP storage remains!
