Sonus Faber’s Lumina II pairs rich, lifelike vocals with a three-dimensional soundstage and surprisingly agile bass from its compact, front-ported cabinet. Sound Advice admired its rhythmic engagement and easy placement, while HomeTheaterHifi found its imaging and natural midrange especially compelling. It is a handsome, emotionally expressive standmount with genuine all-round appeal.
Pros
Clear, natural and richly textured midrange gives voices and acoustic instruments convincing presence.
Spacious, three-dimensional imaging lets the speakers disappear convincingly into the soundstage.
Front slot port supports agile, articulate bass and forgiving placement near walls.
Handsome wood-and-leatherette finish and strong perceived build quality elevate its value.
Cons
Treble can sound conspicuously bright; measurement-led reviews preferred a roughly 2-4dB tonal reduction.
Deep-bass extension is limited for full-range material, making a subwoofer worthwhile for the lowest octave.
Midrange resonances may occasionally lend vocals a nasal or uneven character without EQ.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 87/100
The Lumina II is widely admired for a lively, rich and emotionally communicative presentation, particularly with voices and acoustic instruments. It combines convincing scale, strong imaging and agile rhythmic drive with bass that is satisfying for its compact size. Its tonal balance is not universally agreeable, however: measurement-focused reviewers found the upper treble conspicuously elevated and noted some midrange resonances.
Bass
88/100
Reviewers consistently found the bass articulate, weighty and more substantial than expected from this compact 150mm two-way. Useful in-room extension around 45-55Hz and a quiet front slot port give it convincing foundation and punch for its size, though several reviewers note that similarly priced rivals reach deeper and that a subwoofer improves the lowest octave.
Mid
87/100
Vocals are a central strength in most listening reports: reviewers describe a clear, natural, tonally rich and three-dimensional midrange with especially strong emotional communication. In contrast, Erin's Audio Corner and GR Research identified resonances around the lower-to-upper midrange that can make voices sound somewhat nasal, recessed or uneven without EQ.
Treble
82/100
Some listening reviews praise the soft-dome treble for its detail, smoothness and liveliness, and find the speaker easy to enjoy over long sessions. However, two measurement-led assessments independently describe it as distinctly bright or top-end heavy, with Erin's Audio Corner preferring a roughly 2-4dB treble reduction and GR Research identifying a pronounced high-frequency peak.
Soundstage Imaging
89/100
The Lumina II earns repeated praise for disappearing into a believable, spacious and three-dimensional presentation. Reviewers heard stable placement of voices and instruments, strong depth and useful width, although one reviewer found its stage less expansive than premium monitors and another noted occasional image separation around the crossover region.
Dynamics
88/100
Reviewers describe an agile, propulsive and rhythmically involving character that makes energetic music engaging, while measurements indicate good distortion behavior and usable output for a speaker of this size. It can play loudly, but Part-Time Audiophile felt it could sound somewhat winded when pushed toward its limits, and deeper bass-heavy material remains its main constraint.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
88/100
Several reviewers call the construction excellent, highlighting the attractive real-wood front baffle, leatherette-wrapped cabinet, careful assembly and handsome Italian styling. The cabinet is relatively light, and GR Research criticized its bracing and perceived cabinet resonance, so the luxury appearance is more consistently praised than its underlying enclosure engineering.
Value for Money
93/100
At the commonly reviewed $1,199 / £999-£1,000 price, reviewers repeatedly call the Lumina II compelling, reasonably priced and exceptionally difficult to beat. Part-Time Audiophile named it a favorite two-way monitor around a grand, although Hi-Fi Choice noted that the larger Lumina III's modest price premium can make that model appear the stronger value and that competition is talented.

SIMPLICITY AND STYLE
Lumina takes note of Sonus faber’s iconic natural materials.
SIMPLICITY, STYLE, AND PERFORMANCE
Lumina takes note from core Sonus faber technologies, design, and manufacturing principles – transforming them into a beautifully minimalistic masterpiece, made in Italy.
TWEETER
The iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter, the same used in the Sonetto collection, features a Kurtmueller hand coated soft silk diaphragm of 29mm. The chrome rings around the drivers highlight their shapes and proportions and give brightness to the front baffle.
