Sonus Faber’s Lilium fills the room with a vast soundstage, warm tonal color and startling instrumental separation, yet stays composed when the music demands realistic scale. HomeTheaterHifi found its clarity, transient detail and low-distortion dynamics exceptional at high volume, while the sculptural, hand-finished cabinet makes this an unapologetically luxurious full-range statement.
Pros
Exceptionally clear, detailed and warm presentation with convincing instrumental separation and ambience.
Remains dynamic and composed at lifelike volume, with low audible distortion and crisp transient attack.
Huge, room-filling soundstage delivers impressive scale beyond typical cone loudspeakers.
Gorgeous, exceptionally well-crafted cabinet and premium finish.
Cons
Deep 20–50Hz output is modest for listeners seeking the most forceful bass; a dedicated subwoofer may be desirable.
Its broad, immersive presentation can image less precisely than more tightly focused cone-speaker designs.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 88/100
The Lilium is described as an exceptionally clear, warm and highly involving speaker that remains composed at very high listening levels. It produces a vast, room-filling presentation with unusually strong separation, though its low end is not portrayed as the last word in deep-bass punch.
Bass
83/100
The review finds the low-frequency output modest for such a large speaker and specifically recommends a dedicated subwoofer for listeners wanting deep, pounding bass. A rear bass adjustment can add a few decibels in the 30-50Hz region, offering useful room and taste matching, but it does not overturn that limitation.
Mid
88/100
Review material offers limited direct discussion of midrange tonality, but the overall presentation is repeatedly described as clear, detailed and warm. Vocal and instrumental material was reproduced with strong clarity and ambience, without reported congestion or audible distortion.
Treble
87/100
The Lilium is praised for striking clarity and fine detail, while measurements and listening comments indicate that its off-axis response remains listenable despite some attenuation above 16kHz. The reviews do not suggest glare or harshness, but provide little more specific commentary on top-octave air and treble character.
Soundstage Imaging
91/100
The soundstage is described as huge and room-filling, with exceptional instrument separation and convincing ambience. Images can be less tightly locked in place than with many conventional cone speakers, as the Lilium energizes the whole front of the room rather than presenting only pin-point locations.
Dynamics
94/100
This is a major strength: the Lilium reportedly shines when played loudly, reproducing life-like levels without audible distortion. Leading edges remained distinct and detailed regardless of volume, and the reviewer found distortion modest even under demanding conditions.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
94/100
The review characterizes the Lilium's construction as fabulous and stellar, while also calling the speaker gorgeous. Its substantial, sculptural cabinet and premium finishing are clearly central to its appeal, although the available reviews do not address long-term durability.
Value for Money
85/100
At roughly $70,000-$75,000 per pair, the Lilium is firmly a luxury purchase. The reviews celebrate its sound, appearance and construction, but do not directly compare it with competing speakers at this price or make a clear argument about value against its peers.

Manufacturer's Description — Sonus Faber
The Duality of Sound
A harmony of opposites, Lilium is designed to synthesize opposing elements while maintaining each one’s independent nature.
TRADITION AND INNOVATION
Lilium unites two cabinets into a unique fusion of style and technology. This endeavor captures Sonus faber's heritage while embracing groundbreaking innovations by our Research and Development team. Lilium harmonizes two distinct acoustic chambers to deliver both powerful low frequencies as well as the heart of the sound spectrum in pristine fashion.
CONTRAST AND COMPLEMENT
The lyre-shaped front cabinet, designed for forward sound emission, ensures structural strength and efficient energy management. Meanwhile, the rear cabinet, designed for infra-low frequencies, eliminates resonance with strategic reinforcements. Lilium's front and rear cabinets use different materials – finely grained hard walnut wood for the front and soft leather for the rear - a design that reinforces the duality of the speaker’s engineering philosophy.
THE SHAPE OF NATURAL SOUND
Deriving its name from the Latin word for “lily”, Lilium’s design seamlessly merges two distinct identities within a classical "lyre" silhouette. This synthesis of natural shapes exudes grace and harmony. Its top plate, made of tempered glass, mirrors the lily's form, revealing the passive radiator beneath. Infra-low frequencies travel through the pavement for optimal sound dispersion, and frequency modulation fine-tunes the passive radiator's movement.
LILIUM’S STRIKING FINISHES
Contrasting materials, enhanced by Sonus faber’s signature wood cabinet finishes.
The essence of lilium
“Strong contrasts, seemingly total opposites, form in the music that accompanies our lives. Lilium is designed to give shape and form to these musical expressions; offering a synthesis of these opposing elements, while maintaining their independent nature, and delivering them within a single form.”
Livio Cucuzza, Chief Design Officer
Lyre Shape
The dual "waved" curvature of the "lyre" shape in the front cabinet enhances structural strength for optimal energy management in forward sound emission.
Rear Cabinet
The rear cabinet, dedicated to infra-low frequencies, is designed with sophisticated reinforcing structures, strategically placed within the enclosure to eliminate resonances and unwanted interference.
Contrasting Materials
The separation between Lilium’s two cabinets is visually enhanced by the use of contrasting materials: fine-grained walnut wood in the front and soft leather in the rear enclosure.
Tempered Glass
The tempered glass top plate, shaped like a lily, reveals the passive radiator's movement through its transparency.
Infra-woofer
The infra-woofer operates in "P.Z.I." (Pressure Zone Interface) acoustic conditions, creating a ground effect for optimal interaction with the environment and infra-low frequencies. The output level can be adjusted with the "Deep Low Control" for seamless speaker integration in each unique environment.
