91/100

The Revel M16 pairs a spacious soundstage with full-bodied vocals, crisp natural treble and remarkably even dispersion. Audioholics found its imaging broad and lifelike, while Audiophiliac admired its warm, rich presentation. With a solid curved cabinet and refined balance, this is an exceptionally persuasive standmount for music-first systems.

Pros

Expansive, precise soundstage with natural instrument and vocal placement across a broad listening area.

Rich, convincing midrange gives voices and acoustic instruments exceptional body without sounding aggressive.

Crisp yet unforced treble avoids artificial brightness while retaining detail.

Robust, attractive curved MDF cabinet with tasteful high-gloss finish and magnetic grilles.

Cons

Deep-bass weight is limited for bass-heavy music; a subwoofer is beneficial when low-frequency impact is a priority.

Can sound congested at extreme volume levels and performs best with adequate amplifier power rather than at very low levels.

— Audioholics — James Larson

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 91/100

The M16 is consistently described as a natural, warm and richly full-bodied standmount with unusually convincing vocal presence and spacious imaging. It gives up deep-bass authority and ultimate loud-level freedom to larger speakers, but reviewers found it composed, engaging and highly complete within its intended role.

Bass

87/100

For a rear-ported 6.5-inch standmount, reviewers found the bass very reasonable and more substantial than its compact format suggests. Double bass and cello had satisfying presence, though truly powerful low bass remains out of reach and a subwoofer is clearly beneficial for bass-heavy material.

Mid

94/100

The midrange is a standout. Audioholics praised convincing instrumental timbre, natural woodwind tone and an uncannily realistic Diana Krall vocal, while Audiophiliac heard a particularly complete, present and full-bodied vocal range without aggression.

Treble

91/100

Treble was described as crisp, detailed and natural rather than artificially enhanced for extra air. Audioholics specifically found the highs free of the boosted, overemphasized character that can make detail sound forced.

Soundstage Imaging

94/100

Reviewers repeatedly praised the M16's ability to disappear and cast a very large soundstage. Instrument and vocal placement was described as discrete, natural and authentic, while measured listening-window behavior supports broad, consistent coverage beyond one narrow seat.

Dynamics

87/100

The M16 handled shifts from orchestral bombast to quiet passages well, with snap, shimmer and kick-drum punch outside its lowest octave. It stays composed at surprisingly high levels for its size, although it can become congested at extreme volume and sounds best with some amplifier power rather than at very low late-night levels.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

89/100

The cabinet is widely presented as solid and sensibly engineered, with curved MDF panels, magnetic grilles and a tasteful high-gloss finish. Audioholics heard a reassuringly inert dull thud from the enclosure and judged the construction robust without costly excess, while Audiophiliac also praised its attractive fit and finish.

Value for Money

91/100

At the reviewed price of about $900 per pair, Audioholics called the M16 a good deal and suggested it becomes a bargain below that figure. The reviewer acknowledged that rivals may offer more bass power or more overt treble revelation, but considered the M16's broad, balanced performance very reasonably priced among comparable bookshelf speakers.

Manufacturer's Description — Revel

The M16 is a true full range 2-way 6.5” bookshelf that features a small footprint and elegant design. It will deliver an impressive combination of wide frequency range, uncompressed dynamic range and low distortion across the entire audible spectrum.

High frequency response is supported by 1 inch aluminum dome tweeters that were derived from Revel’s Performa3 series. Low/Mid range frequency response is supported by 6.5” Aluminum cone woofers featuring low-distortion motor-structures for greater clarity and accuracy with improved sensitivity and output capability.

The patented wave guide design improves tweeter to woofer blend and significantly improves off-axis response for consistent performance over a wide listening area. In doing this we sacrificed no details by making sure no fasteners were visible allowing the speaker to show enhancing smooth lines of the cabinet and magnetically attached grilles. To finish the enclosure, we selected high gloss black and white finishes to highlight the features of this beautiful speaker.
