Value for Money

The Polk Monitor XT60 brings neutral, natural mids, weighty bass, and a wide, immersive soundstage to an affordable compact tower. Andrew Robinson found its balanced voicing, articulate detail, and clear dialogue unusually refined for the class, while its easygoing presentation makes music and home cinema equally compelling.
Pros
Balanced, natural midrange with clear dialogue and little added cabinet coloration.
Spacious soundstage with strong depth, width, and a convincing center image.
Solid, weighty bass to around 40Hz that remains more composed than several budget-tower rivals.
Exceptional value, delivering serious hi-fi performance at a sub-$500-per-pair price point.
Cons
Treble can become grainier, more sibilant, and less composed at very high volume.
Imaging is refined but not laser-focused, and bass is not the tightest in its class.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
Reviewers describe a notably neutral, clear and refined presentation for an affordable compact tower. Its strongest traits are a natural midrange, satisfying bass weight, and an expansive soundstage, while very loud playback can reveal some treble grain and less sharply focused imaging.
Bass
90/100
Andrew Robinson found the XT60 solid to roughly 40Hz in room, with more weight and apparent depth than its measurements might suggest. He notes that it is not the tightest bass presentation, but found it substantially less vague or resonant than a considerably pricier Klipsch alternative.
Mid
93/100
The midrange earned especially strong praise from Andrew Robinson, who called it "gold" and described it as neutral and free of cabinet coloration. Ecoustics likewise characterizes the Monitor XT range as offering a lifelike midrange and low-distortion tonal delivery.
Treble
88/100
Reviewers praise a detailed, articulate top end that avoids sounding forward, aggressive, or fatiguing at normal levels. At higher volumes, however, Andrew Robinson heard reduced composure, a flatter presentation, and more noticeable grain or sibilance.
Soundstage Imaging
90/100
Andrew Robinson reports that the XT60 disappears into a soundstage with terrific width and depth, supported by a pleasingly solid center image. Its presentation remains refined rather than smeared, though he stops short of calling its image focus laser-sharp.
Dynamics
88/100
At sensible listening levels between roughly 60 and 90dB, Andrew Robinson found little to criticize and came away impressed by the speaker's liveliness. The review does not offer extensive evidence about high-output headroom beyond that range.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
85/100
Andrew Robinson considers the XT60 nicely constructed for a budget speaker. Polk's five-year limited warranty is reassuring, though the available reviews provide limited detail on cabinet rigidity, internal bracing, terminal quality, or long-term durability.
Value for Money
96/100
At an asking price below $500 per pair, and often around $400 on sale, Andrew Robinson calls finding a speaker this capable "like stealing." He believes it offers the beginnings of serious hi-fi performance where many similarly priced rivals do not, a view reinforced by the strong sound quality reported at this price.
