The Polk Audio Legend L800 turns two-channel listening into a wall-dissolving soundstage, using SDA crosstalk cancellation to cast images far beyond its cabinets. Audioholics found its presentation exceptionally immersive, pairing a fundamentally neutral balance with deep, clean bass and convincing scale. This formidable floorstander rewards careful placement and muscular amplification with a uniquely spacious, full-range performance.
Pros
Exceptional SDA imaging creates an unusually wide, immersive soundstage in which the speakers seemingly disappear.
Deep, clean and accurate bass delivers satisfying visceral weight without requiring subwoofers.
Fundamentally neutral voicing and strong polar response support coherent, engaging long-form listening.
Cons
Its modest sensitivity and demanding output ambitions benefit from a powerful, high-current amplifier; it cannot be pushed as hard as some high-sensitivity alternatives.
SDA performance is setup-sensitive, requiring close spacing, correct orientation and potentially first-reflection treatment in narrow rooms.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
Audioholics found the L800 unusually immersive and fundamentally neutral, with deep, self-contained bass and its exceptional SDA spatial presentation as the defining attractions. The reviewer did note that the midrange/tweeter array and modest sensitivity limit how hard the speaker can be pushed compared with high-output alternatives, so it benefits from ample amplifier power.
Bass
96/100
Audioholics reports clean, tight and accurate low frequencies extending to roughly 25Hz in its room. The reviewer particularly enjoyed achieving a full, visceral bass effect without bringing subwoofers into the system.
Mid
87/100
The review characterises the L800 as a very neutral speaker and says its measured polar response is very good, supporting a coherent overall presentation. There is less direct discussion of vocal timbre or individual instruments, while the reviewer felt the midrange contributed to a limit on maximum output.
Treble
82/100
Audioholics offers little direct description of treble air, sweetness, or fine-detail retrieval. The main relevant reservation is that the tweeter, alongside the midrange, seemed to restrain how forcefully the speaker could be driven versus more sensitive designs.
Soundstage Imaging
97/100
Spatial performance is the L800's standout strength in the review. Audioholics calls its staging and imaging the best it has heard, describing speakers that disappear, images extending well beyond their physical positions, and notably strong depth and layering.
Dynamics
84/100
The L800 delivers satisfying full-range weight, but Audioholics says it could not be pushed as hard as high-sensitivity speakers such as the Geddes and JTR models. The reviewer also advises using plenty of power, reflecting its demanding 87dB sensitivity and low impedance.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
75/100
The supplied information describes a substantial 118-pound cabinet, a Power Port bass-vented enclosure, and a sealed midrange chamber. Audioholics does not provide meaningful direct commentary on cabinet finish, resonance control, terminals, or long-term craftsmanship.
Value for Money
85/100
No current asking price is supplied, and Audioholics does not directly compare the L800's value with competing floorstanders. Its extremely enthusiastic comments on the SDA presentation indicate a distinctive capability, but the review does not make an explicit price-to-performance case.

True Stereo
For the first time in nearly 25 years, Polk is introducing a new SDA speaker – the Polk Legend L800. The Legend L800 floorstanding speaker features new patents that build on the original SDA mission of maintaining full stereo separation all the way from the source to your ears. As a result, L800 renders the most lifelike detailed, stereo imaging you have ever heard from Polk. The speakers seem to disappear as the sonic images fill your listening room with startling realism. It does this by minimizing the inherent distortion found in all stereo speakers known as interaural crosstalk (IAC) by utilizing a second column of transducers called a dimensional array. The Legend L800 speakers are the most revealing and best sounding SDA speakers Polk has ever made.
The only true stereo speaker
Polk SDA speakers were the first true stereo speakers because they were able to maintain stereo separation all the way from the source to your ears. By acoustically isolating the two stereo channels, each ear hears only the correct stereo channel. The left ear hears left channel, and the right ear hears right channel. Recordings literally come alive in your listening room. Musical images are reproduced with clarity and pinpoint accuracy. You are immersed in an awe-inspiring three-dimensional sound stage that extends from wall-to-wall (width), floor to ceiling (height) and extends both in-front and behind the speakers (depth).
New high resolution
40 plus years of tweeter innovation, design and prototyping has led to the development of the new 1” high definition Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter. Developed by Polk Audio, it delivers ultra-clear, crisp highs without unwanted coloration or distortions. Hi-Res Audio Certified to ensure the most lifelike reproduction—whether you're watching the latest Ultra-HD moves or listening to music on SACD or streaming services like Apple Music, Amazon Music HD, or Tidal.
New 5.25" turbine cone
Polk developed the new Turbine Cone specifically for the Legend series to ensure the natural reproduction of the mid-range, the frequencies our ears are so sensitive to. The Turbine cone combines Polk’s proprietary foam core and the molded Turbine geometry which dramatically increases stiffness and damping, without adding mass, resulting in a smooth, detailed mid-range and effortless bass – hear every detail.
3d audio compatibility optional height module
For the ultimate listening experience, the L800 can be used for the front stage of any home theater or as side and rear surrounds. Elevate your sound of your home theater set up with our optional Legend L900 height module (sold separately). This works with today’s new home theater technologies including: Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS:X, DTS:X Virtual, IMAX Enhanced and Auro-3D.
Patented Power Port
Better Bass By Design
For Legend Series we enhanced our patented Power Port® technology by fine-tuning the geometry of the port flare to smoothly transition air flow from the speaker into your listening area. The result? Louder, cleaner bass and more defined midrange by minimizing the turbulence, distortion, and port noise typically found in traditional ported speaker designs.
