Legacy Audio Foundation delivers infrasonic reach with startlingly clean, room-energising authority. Jim Clements found its dual-driver design equally convincing on explosive cinema and pitch-faithful music, pairing gut-shaking slam with nimble timing. Flexible RCA, LFE and XLR connections plus adjustable EQ make this a formidable, finely controllable foundation for serious systems.
Pros
Delivers exceptionally deep, forceful bass with more apparent very-low-frequency response than the reviewer’s reference SVS subwoofer.
Combines massive high-level output with clean control: loud movie effects remained distinct from musical bass rather than smearing together.
Musical and pitch-stable enough to keep pace with acoustic and fast-paced material, while blending seamlessly with satellite speakers.
Comprehensive RCA, LFE and balanced XLR connectivity, continuous adjustments and Blend EQ made integration straightforward.
Cons
The front-panel blue power LED was distractingly bright in a projector-based theater and lacks a dimmer control.
Control knobs are not graduated, making exact repeatable settings less convenient without measurement or careful listening.

What Reviewers Are Saying
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Bass
95/100
The Foundation delivered unusually deep, forceful bass in the review system, including infrasonic output and “gut-shaking” impact. It went toe-to-toe with an SVS subwoofer for slam while producing more apparent very-low-bass response, and was also praised for being more musical.
Integration
93/100
The reviewer found the Foundation's bass to be “in time and in tune with the music,” with maintained pitch integrity even during demanding material. Loud gunfire and explosions did not smear or interfere with the musical bass, indicating a controlled, convincing blend rather than a distracting low-frequency layer.
Dynamics
96/100
This subwoofer was described as having apparently unlimited output potential in a fairly large room, even during bass-heavy movie playback. Explosions and gunfire remained clean at high levels, while the sub stayed nimble enough to keep pace with music and preserve bass pitch.
Build Quality
91/100
The reviewer found the large cabinet very solid and notably inert. Its substantial driver motors, heavy-duty voice coils, and high-current 1,000-watt amplifier support the impression of a seriously engineered, robustly constructed subwoofer.
Features Usability
87/100
Connection options are comprehensive, with stereo RCA, mono LFE RCA, and balanced XLR inputs. The adjustable low-frequency EQ offers useful room and system matching flexibility, and the reviewer described the Foundation as easy to integrate into a system.
Value for Money
85/100
At roughly $5,000 to $6,500, the Foundation occupies a premium segment. The review strongly praises its performance, but does not directly compare its value against similarly priced competitors or make a clear recommendation based on price.

DEFINITION BY DESIGN
Implementing compound passive radiator technology and a pair of Legacy’s renown long throw 12″ woofers, Foundation delivers a more forceful attack, rebounding without the usual mechanical shuddering present in subwoofers. Foundation offers exceptional tonality and bass definition previously unattainable at this price level.
Powered by 1000W of internal amplification, the Foundation subwoofer benefits from 30 amps of peak current to provide tight control over its woofers. The result is a subwoofer with exceptional tonality, low distortion, and impressive bass definition, all within a compact footprint. The Foundation is a a top contender for audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts alike.
Foundation utilizes a pair of our ultra long throw 12″ subwoofers with a 3″ dual 4 layer voice coil and a 480oz (30lb) motor structure. The powerful motor structure and dual 3″ voice-coils keep the woofer’s heavy cone well damped electrically.
Foundation provides variable level control, continuous phase adjustment and a wide range of crossover frequencies. Also included is our unique blend control to finesse the transition in the overlap area from your main speakers. These controls will allow you to tailor the sound of the sub to your room and integrate with your main speakers.
