Sound Quality

Build Quality

Features Usability

Value for Money

95/100

The Hana ML brings full-bodied refinement, expansive imaging and deeply textured bass to serious vinyl systems. Its Microline stylus uncovers low-level detail with calm, natural separation, while dynamics stay vivid and voices remain beautifully poised. StereoNET admired its airy top end and insight, and Part Time Audiophile found its relaxed soundstage exceptionally involving. This is high-end MC performance with unusually persuasive value.

Pros

Refined, full-bodied tonal balance with natural vocals, rich bass and an airy treble.

Expansive, three-dimensional soundstage with excellent instrumental separation on dense recordings.

Strong dynamic expression and fine retrieval of subtle ambience without sounding etched or fatiguing.

Exceptional value for a low-output moving-coil cartridge, according to multiple reviewers.

Cons

Microline stylus demands careful alignment and is fussier to set up than elliptical or spherical alternatives.

Bass can sound slightly soft and smooth on some deep, powerful recordings rather than maximally defined.

The low-output design requires a capable MC phono stage or step-up transformer, and Hi-Fi Choice found it initially dark before run-in.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"It's so good that were it to come in an exotic box, it could be offered for at least twice its price and would be graciously received."

— StereoNET United Kingdom

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 94/100

Reviewers consistently hear a refined, full-bodied and highly involving moving-coil cartridge, combining rich bass and natural voices with openness, fine detail and strong dynamic expression. Its spacious presentation and image separation are widely praised, although a few listeners found the bass slightly soft or the initial balance somewhat dark before further running-in.

Overall Sound

94/100

The ML is repeatedly described as full-bodied, refined and natural, with a solid, textured low end, an articulate midrange and a light, airy or sweet treble. Part Time Audiophile found it steady and dependable without becoming dull, while The Audio Beatnik called its presentation dynamic, dramatic and a joy to listen to. The Ear noted that deep bass can be a little soft, and Hi-Fi Choice initially found the tonal balance slightly dark before additional running-in improved the treble.

Tracking Retrieval

93/100

Its Microline stylus is credited with extracting subtle effects, low-level ambience and fine instrumental texture without forcing detail through an exaggerated top end. StereoNET praised its handling of large dynamic swings, while The Audiophile Man heard lower noise and unusually clear access to information buried deep in the mix. Hi-Fi Choice also found that it retained fine detail while delivering power and impact.

Soundstage Imaging

94/100

Reviewers consistently report an expansive, three-dimensional stage with strong instrumental separation and tangible performers. Part Time Audiophile found the soundstage relaxed and expansive, StereoNET heard impressive space and separation on dense recordings, and The Audiophile Man praised its tremendous sense of space. The Ear additionally highlighted convincing audience ambience and greater image depth than a comparison cartridge.

FEATURES USABILITY PERFORMANCE 88/100

Tonearm compatibility / system fit.

Tonearm Compatibility

88/100

At 9.5g, the ML is considered suitable for most tonearms, and The Ear found its success across varied turntables a strong sign of adaptability. Its 8-ohm, 0.4mV low-output generator works well with suitable MC stages, 100-ohm loading and many step-up transformers, but requires more careful phono-stage matching than a high-output cartridge. The Microline profile also demands precise alignment, although reviewers found installation manageable and appreciated the threaded mounting.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

91/100

The ML uses a Delrin/POM body, brass or copper damping plate, nude Microline stylus, aluminium cantilever and high-purity copper coils with cryogenic treatment. Reviewers also welcome the threaded body fittings, which make mounting easier than on cartridges requiring separate nuts. Direct commentary on long-term durability is limited, but the construction is consistently presented as carefully executed and more sophisticated than Hana's lower-priced models.

Value for Money

95/100

At roughly $1,200, reviewers repeatedly regard the ML as unusually strong value among low-output moving-coil cartridges. StereoNET said it could credibly sell for twice as much, Part Time Audiophile questioned whether spending more was necessary, and The Audio Beatnik called it a killer of many more expensive rivals. Hi-Fi Choice similarly considered it a worthy contender among cartridges at its price.

Manufacturer's Description — Hana

Building upon the foundation of the critically acclaimed HANA sound, the ML aspires toward affordable perfection and represents the further evolution of the “Brilliant and Gorgeous” quality that has earned HANA its worldwide reputation.

M Series Nude Microline stylus – Higher Specification Part

Befitting its name, the M Series uses a Nude Microline stylus, mimicking the cutting stylus and fitting more precisely into the vinyl groove. This enhances tracking to capture the most delicate musical details with better frequency reproduction, stereo imaging, and resolution.

High Purity copper wire – Higher Specification Part

The coil of the ML's new low-impedance generator—the same generator used in the Hana Umami Blue—is wound with a very high-purity copper wire. Implementing the new generator optimizes performance and provides superior matching with a broader range of phono preamps.

Delrin© cartridge body – Advanced Materials

The M Series cartridge body is injection molded from Delrin©, a high-tech polymer with improved mechanical characteristics for better resonance damping, to reveal more low-level information and enhance dynamic range.

Cryogenic Processing - Unique Technical Treatment

Cryogenic processing is Cold Annealing at near absolute zero temperature that restructures metals at the molecular level, especially important in the Alnico-based magnetic electro-motive circuit (cartridge signal generator). The M Series parts treated include the front yoke as well as the center and rear components. The result is a more precise and controlled magnetic flux field for greater linearity and musical sound quality.

Brass Cap with Threaded fittings - Superior Mechanical Interface

The Delrin© cartridge body features a machined brass cap providing constrained mode layer damping and its heavier 9.5 gram weight provides expanded compatibility with a wider range of tonearms and turntables.

Built into the M Series Delrin© cartridge body are metal threaded fittings for headshell mounting hardware, offering easier attachment and a superior mechanical interface for better bass and dynamics.
