Focal Sopra N°2 delivers explosive speed, taut bass and holographic vocal focus from an elegant three-way floorstander. SoundStage Solo admired its clean dynamic grip and near-reference imaging, while The Ear found a neutral, low-colouration balance with immense orchestral scale. Its detailed beryllium treble and precise soundstage make dense music feel effortlessly alive.

Pros

Exceptionally fast, deep and controlled bass with impactful attack and clean decay.

Superb imaging and vocal focus, with precise localisation, minimal image bleed and generous instrument separation.

Neutral, highly detailed presentation stays composed and dynamic through dense orchestral material and high volumes.

Cons

Benefits from a powerful, rhythmically capable amplifier and a lively rather than heavily overdamped room.

Tweeter positioning is important; on-axis listening can make the treble more distracting.

What Reviewers Are Saying

"Let the music flow for I find no limits. No nasty compression, no roughness, ultralow distortion, hardly any coloration, in truth I can’t detect its ‘signature’."

— The Ear

"the sound of the bass is really unlike any other speaker"

— HiFi Turtle

"The Sopra, along with a handful of other high-end speakers around this price point, brought the performance to life in the listening room."

— SoundStage Solo

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 96/100

Reviews portray the Sopra N°2 as an exceptionally transparent, fast and even-handed loudspeaker, combining physical impact with very low apparent coloration. Its particular strengths are tightly controlled bass, vividly focused imaging, spacious presentation and an ability to remain composed through complex, demanding music.

Bass

96/100

Reviewers repeatedly praise unusually fast, taut and powerful low frequencies. SoundStage Solo heard deep bass with impressive grip and clean separation of individual notes, while HiFi Turtle particularly admired its visceral attack and very rapid decay, which keeps the impact from becoming overwhelming.

Mid

95/100

Vocals are consistently described as vivid, naturally sized and precisely placed. SoundStage Solo found vocals sublime and piano full-bodied with realistic attack and decay; HiFi Turtle likewise praised the textured, crisp midrange and especially strong vocal presence.

Treble

94/100

The beryllium tweeter is reported to be highly detailed, delicate and rich rather than aggressively bright. The Ear specifically says the old association of Focal with bright treble is far behind it, while HiFi Turtle found the top end richly textured without fatigue.

Soundstage Imaging

96/100

Imaging is a defining strength. SoundStage Solo compared its vocal focus and localization to Wilson-like standards, noting minimal image bleed, while The Ear heard unusually clear separation of orchestral voices and generous space around instruments.

Dynamics

97/100

The Sopra N°2 is repeatedly described as extraordinarily quick, powerful and unflustered. SoundStage Solo heard exceptional start-stop precision, momentum and freedom from congestion on dense material, and The Ear characterizes its presentation as one of majestic power with no nasty compression.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

94/100

The reviews describe a substantial, carefully engineered loudspeaker with striking finish quality. SoundStage Solo praises the design, finish and applied technologies, while The Ear highlights the complex cabinet construction and internal resonance-control measures.

Value for Money

94/100

At roughly $19,000 per pair in the recent HiFi Turtle review, this remains a costly loudspeaker, but the reviewers regard it as highly competitive in that company. SoundStage Solo considers it comparatively attainable by high-end standards, and HiFi Turtle calls it the leading contender in its price area, with few rivals matching its sound signature.

Manufacturer's Description — Focal

3-way floor-standing speaker

Sopra N°2 combines a number of key advantages: compactness, hi-fi sound and purity of design. Like the other top-of-the-range Sopra loudspeakers, it approaches the performance of Utopia loudspeakers, Focal's excellence. Its timeless finish adds a touch of sophistication. Perfect for living rooms of up to 30m², it is equally at home in larger rooms of up to 70m².

A concentrate of unrivalled technologies

Equipped with the best midrange ever developed by Focal, with NIC and TMD technologies, Sopra N°2 pushes back the limits of reproduction in terms of sound transparency in a loudspeaker with very contained volume.

Perfect acoustic convergence

The architecture of the loudspeaker is articulated around the intermediate piece. Injected with polyurethane, this element allows the top and bottom cabinets to be tilted for "Focus Time", ensuring perfect acoustic convergence of the channels at the listening point.

Excellence in detail

The deliberately visible decoupling tips were designed for Sopra and manufactured by watchmaking specialists. The Beryllium tweeter is protected by a grille with a lattice pattern. The same pattern is repeated on the back plate of the midrange.
