The ELAC UBR62 turns a compact three-way design into a wide, three-dimensional soundstage, pairing natural vocal weight with clean, controlled bass and a smooth, fatigue-free top end. Erin's Audio Corner admired its exceptional width and depth, while Cheap Audio Man praised its neutral, full-bodied midrange. A compelling standmount for spacious, immersive listening.

Pros

Expansive, deeply layered soundstage with strong center imaging and wide dispersion.

Natural, weighty vocals and a clear, well-balanced midrange.

Smooth, forgiving treble supports long, non-fatiguing listening sessions.

Substantial, carefully braced cabinet and thoughtful three-way engineering deliver strong value.

Cons

Low sensitivity benefits from a muscular amplifier, and dynamics compress at very high volumes.

Deep-bass extension and ultimate output are limited for far-field, high-level listening; a subwoofer can help.

Some reviewers noted slightly softened treble detail and less sharply defined bass than rivals.

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 89/100

The UBR62 is widely described as a smooth, full-bodied and carefully balanced three-way standmount with unusually expansive spatial presentation. Its strengths are its convincing midband, controlled bass and standout imaging, while its limited sensitivity, ultimate bass output and slightly softened top end make amplifier matching and listener priorities important.

Bass

88/100

For a 6.5-inch bookshelf speaker, reviewers consistently found the bass weighty, clean and well controlled, with Audiophiliac hearing useful output into the low-40Hz region and Enjoy The Music reporting audible low bass on test material. Several reviewers praise its texture, speed and integration, though Erin's Audio Corner found lower-bass extension and output limiting, while A British Audiophile noted that its warmth comes with some loss of definition.

Mid

89/100

Vocals and instruments are commonly described as natural, rich and clear, with particularly satisfying weight through male voices and small acoustic ensembles. Cheap Audio Man and Tharbamar both praise the neutral, detailed midrange, but Erin's Audio Corner identified a mild coloration or resonance around upper female vocals that may be audible on some material.

Treble

87/100

The treble is generally smooth, clear and fatigue-free, giving the speaker a forgiving character that suits long listening sessions and imperfect recordings. Some listeners praised its realism and clarity, but others found the upper range slightly rolled off or less revealing of fine spatial cues; Erin's measurements also suggest narrowing dispersion higher up.

Soundstage Imaging

94/100

Spatial performance is the UBR62's most consistently celebrated quality. Reviewers repeatedly describe a broad, deep and convincingly three-dimensional stage, with strong center focus, layered images and an ability to disappear from the room. The coaxial arrangement and wide dispersion are especially effective with careful toe-in, although placement remains worthwhile for getting the best result.

Dynamics

85/100

When partnered with a capable amplifier, the UBR62 can sound energetic, punchy and satisfyingly powerful for its size, with several reviewers enjoying its scale at healthy levels. Its low sensitivity means it needs meaningful amplifier power, however, and Erin's Audio Corner found compression emerging above roughly 96dB, with very high-output listening beyond its comfort zone.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

90/100

Reviewers regard the UBR62 as a notably substantial and well-finished speaker for the price, citing its heavy, braced cabinet, curved baffle and solid fit and finish. Full-perimeter bracing, sturdy grille treatment and quality metal binding posts reinforce the impression of thoughtful engineering, even if the wood-effect finish is not real veneer.

Value for Money

90/100

At around $999 per pair in the US and £749 in the UK, reviewers broadly consider the UBR62 a strong proposition among similarly priced standmounts. Enjoy The Music calls it one of the best price-to-performance monitor loudspeakers, while Cheap Audio Man says it justifies its retail price; competing options remain plentiful, but the three-way design, cabinet work and spatial performance make a persuasive case.

These speakers are the epitome of precise sound reproduction, meticulously designed to unravel the subtleties of your favorite music and movies. With a commitment to delivering uncompromised audio quality, the Uni-Fi Reference Bookshelf Speakers showcase a remarkable amalgamation of advanced drivers, precision-built cabinets, and unparalleled craftsmanship. Elevating your listening experience to new heights, these speakers immerse you in a world of sonic richness and unparalleled clarity, offering an audio journey that's as captivating as it is authentic.

True 3-Way Speaker

A 3-way speaker system offers numerous benefits due to its precise allocation of frequencies to three distinct drivers, each tailored for bass, midrange, and treble. This meticulous distribution guarantees a precise and detailed rendering of sound throughout the entire spectrum. This design minimizes frequency interference, reduces distortion, and ultimately results in a clearer, more refined audio quality.

Cast Chassis Concentric Driver

An extended wide-surround tweeter elevates its range in both low and high frequencies, facilitating smoother integration with the midrange. A completely revamped midrange driver, equipped with a larger diameter voice coil, vented rear spider, and a fresh neodymium magnet, enhances excursion and precision in handling midrange frequencies. Additionally, a newly crafted cast chassis aims to reduce cone reflections, significantly improving overall clarity.

Compound Curvature Woofer

Markedly enhancing low-end reproduction, this recently developed bass driver showcases a single-piece compound curvature aluminum cone alongside a sizable rear vented magnet, ensuring heightened linearity and superior low-frequency response compared to any preceding Uni-Fi bookshelf speaker.

Dual Flared Slot Port

The newly introduced dual flared slot vent enables enhanced bass dynamics by delivering higher bass output with reduced noise levels.

Premium Finishes

Uni-Fi Reference showcases premium finishes, offering a Walnut cabinet paired with a black painted front baffle, or an Oak cabinet complemented by a white painted front baffle ensuring these speakers blend seamlessly into any home decor, making a statement without taking up unnecessary space.

Full Perimeter Bracing

A newly implemented full perimeter brace, connecting the top, bottom, and side panels, effectively reduces cabinet vibrations, resulting in minimized audio coloration within the cabinet.
