DeVore Fidelity gibbon X Speakers

Reviewers found the bass exceptionally deep, powerful and musical, with credible authority into the low 20Hz region. Part Time Audiophile calls its sub-30Hz extension and slam breathtaking for the price, while The Audio Beatnik and Resistor Magazine praise both its tightness and ability to energize a large room; it does, however, need breathing room from boundaries to avoid bass and lower-midrange congestion.

Vocals and instruments are portrayed with strikingly natural tone, texture and scale. The Audio Beatnik hears unusually low vocal coloration and lifelike timbre, while Resistor Magazine highlights stable performer placement, realistic pitch and particularly convincing piano; Part Time Audiophile characterizes the presentation as seamless rather than forward.

The top end is widely praised for combining extension, delicacy and fine detail without brightness or fatigue. The Audio Beatnik found it highly extended and detailed but never bright, and Resistor Magazine similarly reports an open, resolved presentation free of edge when partnered with suitably transparent electronics.

Spatial performance is a major strength. Reviewers describe a huge, deep and unusually tall stage, holographically locked image placement, convincing layering, and a speaker that disappears into the room; careful toe-in and distance from walls help realize this capability.

The gibbon X earns repeated praise for speed, impact and freedom from compression. The Audio Beatnik reports dynamics and startle factor in abundance, Resistor Magazine hears instantaneous translation of dynamic swings, and Part Time Audiophile found it capable of very high levels even with a 7W SET amplifier.

Both detailed reviews praise the cabinet execution as flawless, with precise fit and finish and close attention to small details. The cherry-bamboo finish, magnetic grilles, adjustable bronze footer spikes, careful packaging and isolated tweeter assembly all receive specific approval, while Part Time Audiophile also notes the elegant, slim profile and attractive woodwork.

At approximately $15,890 per pair in the reviewed pricing, this is still a costly loudspeaker, but reviewers make unusually strong value claims for its class. The Audio Beatnik calls it perhaps the best high-end value below $100,000 for listeners seeking neutrality, extension and dynamics, while Part Time Audiophile explicitly calls it a bargain; Resistor Magazine also finds the fit and finish appropriate to the asking price.
