The PMA-900HNE pairs smooth, rich control with impressive detail, taut bass and spacious imaging, making streaming, vinyl and digital sources feel equally at home. Sound Advice applauds its energetic authority and dimensional soundstage, while The Absolute Sound highlights its low-noise clarity. HEOS streaming, MM/MC phono and extensive connectivity make this a versatile network hub.
Pros
Smooth, rich and controlled sound combines fine detail, strong dynamics and convincing three-dimensional imaging.
Analog and phono playback deliver a warmer, more organic and musically engaging presentation.
Extensive connectivity includes HEOS multiroom streaming, high-resolution digital inputs, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth and MM/MC phono.
Cons
With bass-heavy material through its internal digital section, low frequencies can become exaggerated and less controlled.

What Reviewers Are Saying
SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100
Reviewers find the PMA-900HNE smooth, rich and controlled, with strong clarity, convincing scale and an impressively dimensional presentation. Its analog inputs and phono stage earn particular praise for their warmer, more organic and musically engaging character, while the internal digital path can sound less settled in bass-heavy material.
Transparency Resolution
91/100
The Absolute Sound heard impressive clarity, plentiful low-level information, a very low noise floor and excellent separation between instruments. Sound Advice likewise describes fine presence and impressive detail without sacrificing the amplifier's relaxed, weighty character.
Tonal Balance Musicality
89/100
Its general balance is described as neutral with a slight warmth, clear treble, full voices and useful tonal colour. The analog and phono inputs were especially appreciated for a warmer, smoother, more organic and engaging sound; the internal digital playback was less convincing when bass content became excessive.
Dynamics
90/100
Sound Advice found ample reserve for high playback levels, saying the Denon could deliver drama, play forcefully and retain control rather than sounding strained. It also kept dense rock together convincingly and drove even demanding speakers with taut, room-shaking bass, though another reviewer noted that bass could become wild and woolly through the digital section on low-frequency-heavy recordings.
Soundstage Imaging
91/100
With revealing speakers, Sound Advice reports impressively three-dimensional images. The Absolute Sound also heard excellent instrumental separation, believable decays and voices and instruments emerging clearly from a notably quiet background.
Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.
Build Quality
90/100
Sound Advice describes the PMA-900HNE as beautifully put together and finished, with smooth, well-weighted controls and a reassuring sense of solidity. Direct commentary on long-term durability is limited, but the reported fit and feel are clearly strong.
Features Connectivity
95/100
This is an unusually complete network integrated amplifier: HEOS multiroom streaming, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, a high-resolution DAC, digital inputs, USB playback and extensive service support are all included. It also provides MM/MC phono capability, headphone output, speaker A/B switching, a filtered subwoofer output, tone controls and a remote.
Value for Money
94/100
At its tested £899 price, Sound Advice calls it solid value, sensibly priced and lavishly equipped; at the subsequently available £649, it calls the amplifier an absolute bargain. The Absolute Sound also highlights the unusually broad combination of phono stage, DAC and streaming capability for under $1,000, and praises its all-around sound for the money.
