The Dali OBERON 1 makes compact listening feel expansive, pairing expressive vocals and wide, stable imaging with smooth treble, fine detail and surprising dynamic composure. What Hi-Fi? highlights its articulate, musically cohesive character, while SoundStage Solo found exceptional dispersion and soundstage depth. This is a refined, room-friendly standmount with serious audiophile appeal.

Pros

Expressive, solid vocal reproduction with articulate, refined detail.

Expansive, sharply focused soundstage with wide, even off-axis dispersion.

Maintains tonal balance and composure at high listening levels despite its compact cabinet.

Solid, well-finished MDF cabinet and compact, placement-friendly form.

Cons

Deep-bass weight and low-frequency authority trail larger bookshelf rivals; a subwoofer benefits full-range listening.

Upper mids and treble can sound slightly forward or bright with some partnering equipment.

— What Hi-Fi

— SoundStage Solo

"it can provide effortlessly natural soundscape and spacious soundstage which is really impressive"

— Tharbamar

SOUND QUALITY PERFORMANCE 90/100

The OBERON 1 is repeatedly praised for combining a bold, articulate and musically cohesive presentation with unusually strong refinement for a compact stand-mount. Its strengths are expressive voices, wide dispersion, stable imaging and controlled dynamics, while ultimate bass weight and large-scale authority remain limited by its small cabinet.

Bass

87/100

For a 5.25-inch compact speaker, reviewers find the bass tight, precise and well defined, with Tharbamar calling it especially impressive for the cabinet and driver size. What Hi-Fi notes clearly that it cannot match larger rivals for low-frequency authority or depth, so listeners wanting full-range scale will still benefit from a subwoofer.

Mid

93/100

Vocals are a standout: What Hi-Fi describes them as solid and expressive, calling the speakers stunning with vocal-led music. SoundStage likewise found guitar timbres unmistakable and unimpeachable, though its home-cinema evaluation detected a slight lower-midrange timbre mismatch with the matching Vokal centre speaker.

Treble

89/100

The soft-dome treble is widely described as smooth, detailed and airy, retaining bite without upsetting the speaker's composed tonal balance. There are small reservations at both ends of the evidence: SoundStage found harmonics a little less penetrating than on the finest speakers, while Tharbamar heard some upper-mid and treble brightness with certain amplification.

Soundstage Imaging

94/100

This is a major strength. Reviews describe an expansive, sharply focused and stable stage, with palpable positioning, strong instrumental separation and notably spooky depth. The broad, even dispersion also keeps tonal balance intact well off centre, although a little toe-in and roughly 30cm of space from the rear wall are recommended for best results.

Dynamics

89/100

Despite their size, the OBERON 1s are praised for lively punch, convincing musical contrasts and composure at demanding volume levels; SoundStage measured 99dBA peaks from seven feet away without a loss of tonal balance. They do not offer the ultimate sense of large-speaker authority, and one reviewer wanted more maximum volume and power handling.

Assessments of Build Quality, Usability, and Overall Propositions.

Build Quality

88/100

Reviewers describe the compact MDF cabinets as solid and nicely made, with SoundStage's cabinet-knock test finding them notably inert. Fit and finish, including the wood-grain vinyl wrap and driver presentation, receive positive comments, though the available reviews provide limited long-term ownership evidence.

Value for Money

94/100

At about $349, the OBERON 1 earns unusually emphatic value praise. What Hi-Fi says that competing with its refinement would require spending closer to four figures and could not identify a more capable small, unfussy alternative at this price, while Tharbamar also highlights its price-to-performance ratio.
